FRESH COCONUT CHUTNEY/ KAYI CHUTNEY

       This is the chutney prepared to use as a accompaniment with dosa, Idly, rotti (rice), wada etc. There is another version of kayi chutney which is eaten by mixing it with hot rice. That chutney is slightly different from this one.

 

        Ingredients:

  • Grated fresh coconut – 1 cup
  • Roasted chana (Hurigadale) – 1/2 cup
  • Green chillies – 4 to 6 or according to the spice level
  • Curry leaves – 4 to 6 leaves
  • Salt to taste

         For tempering:

  • Oil – 1tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp

         PROCEDURE:

  • Grind all the ingredients using 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water
  • Prepare tempering
  • Pour the tempering over the ground chutney and serve
