BEATEN RICE/AVALAKKI ROTTI / POHA ROTTI/THALIPEETH

Posted in : ROTTI / ROTI / THALIPEET on by : Divya Suresh

It can be made plain or with vegetables such as cucumber, carrot, onion etc with both white beaten rice or red beaten rice. It can be done in two ways… One is by soaking the beaten rice and the other by grinding it into powder. It comes out well in both the ways and it takes very less oil and filling as well as healthy.

        Ingredients :

  • Beaten rice/Avalakki/Poha – 2 cups (  rotti/thalipeeth in the image, with aam ras, is made out of red Poha/Beaten rice )
  • Onion – 1/2 cup ( finely chopped )
  • Green chilli – 1 chopped
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tbsp ( optional )
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to smear on rotti

        PROCEDURE :

  • Wash the beaten rice, drain all the water and keep it covered for minimum half an hour, then knead it well or run it in the mixie without water
  • Add all the other ingredients except oil and combine everything well by kneading again   OR
  • Powder the beaten rice in the mixer, transfer the powder into a bowl, add all the other ingredients except oil and knead the dough using water and Keep it covered for minimum half an hour
  • Grease the tawa or butter paper or Plate ( rotti tatte ) , Pinch a portion of the dough and spread it evenly with wet fingers ( keep a bowl of water by the side and dip your finger whenever necessary )
  • Cook on the both the sides by smearing little oil
  • Serve with any chutney ( I served it with Seekarane ( Aam ras ) )
