Posted in : BREAKFAST RECIPES on by : Divya Suresh

When I saw the picture and recipe of one of my fellow member Mrs. Balvinder Kaur in one of the food group, I got this new idea of adding cucumber with chickpeas to the beaten rice and preparing sweet version ( same old style of making beaten rice with jaggery ) with chickpeas.  So I prepared it and it was a hit.Thank you Balvinder Kaur for one more yummy Poha recipe. Here is the recipe

        Ingredients :

    For spicy version :

  • Beaten rice – 1 cup
  • Cooked chickpeas – 1/2 cup
  • Cucumber cubes – 1/2 to 1 cup
  • Green chilli – 2 or according to the taste ( chopped )
  • Grated fresh coconut – 1/4 cup
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

        PROCEDURE :

  • Wash the beaten rice well and drain all the water and keep it aside covered
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, green chilli, curry leaves and cucumber
  • Fry for a minute or two (no need to cook the cucumber)
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander leaves, cooked chickpeas and beaten rice
  • Add salt and combine everything well on a medium flame
  • Transfer to the container, sprinkle coconut and serve

Lemon juice or grated raw mango can also be added
