RED PUMPKIN / KADDU DAL / SIHI KUMBALAKAYI TOVVE

In South India.. when you say  Tovve ( dal ) itself means its a less spicy preparation, which is very much suitable for summers. In the same procedure we can make Cucumber tovve ( dal ) also. Today I’m going to share red pumpkin tovve, which is very easy to make with very few ingredients. It can be eaten with Chapati, poori and rice offcourse.

 

 

 

        Ingredients :

  • Pigeon Pea/Toor dal/togaribele – 1 cup ( cooked )
  • Pumpkin cubes – 2 cups
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Green chilli paste – 1/2 tsp OR Whole red chillies – 2 nos.,
  • curry leaves – few
  • Asafoetida – 2 to 4 pinches
  • Salt – according to taste

        Other Ingredients : 

  • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Grated fresh coconut – 2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp or more as per taste

 

      PROCEDURE :

  • Heat ghee add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chilli paste, turmeric powder, curry leaves and hing stir it & take out form the heat, tempering is ready.
  • Cook Pumpkin till little soft and add it to the cooked dal and bring it to boil (Add water according to the consistency)
  • Add salt, coriander leaves and prepared tempering, when it boils take out from the heat
  • Add lemon juice and coconut … serve with rice or chapati
