IDLY-SAMBAR / LENTIL LESS SAMBAR FOR IDLY

I do it in many ways, Now sharing one of the method… this is my own recipe of sambar but using regularly used ingredients for sambar, the procedure is absolutely mine. In this recipe I’m not using Lentil or lentil water, its a non lentil sambar recipe. In a way instant and quick.

This recipe is for 1 litre water

 

        Ingredients :

  • Onion – 1 big
  • Tomatoes – 2 big
  • Tamarind Juice – 1 tbsp (thick)
  • Jaggery – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

 

        For roasting and grinding :

  • Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Black Pepper – 1/4 tsp
  • Whole red chilli – 6 nos., which gives colour but not hot
  • Hing – 1/8 tsp

 

        For Tempering :

  • Ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  •  Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves

 

         PROCEDURE :

  • Chop the onion and tomato
  • Boil 1 litre water and add 1/2 portion of chopped tomato into it and allow it to boil
  • Dry roast all the ingredients under the heading ” For roasting & grinding ” , and grind it with remaining 1/2 portion of chopped tomato, and add it to the boiling tomato water
  • Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves and Chopped Onion and fry till onions are soft… and add it to the boiling sambar
  • Now add salt, tamarind juice and jaggery, boil further for one or two minutes and…
  • Sambar is ready to serve.
