Thank you so much Pavithra Rajesh for this wonderful recipe. I have eaten/tasted it somewhere, but unable to recall. When I made this, even my younger son told the same that we have tasted it already… but can’t recollect where & when. A very yummy, lentil less, a kind of instant huli (sambar) which goes very well with hot steaming rice. We enjoyed it thoroughly.

Ingredients :

  • French beans/huralikayi – 1 cup
  • Lemon juice – 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
  • Water – 2 cups

To grind :

  • Grated fresh coconut – 1/2 cup
  • Split bengal gram/kadlebele – 2 tbsp
  • Green chilli – 4 (adjust)
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp (heaped)
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

For tempering :

  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

PROCEDURE :

  • Soak split bengal gram/kadlebele for minimum half an hour (I had soaked it for 1&1/2 an hour)
  • Cook french beans/huralikayi, don’t cook it till too soft but keep it crunchy and keep it ready
  • Grind together all the ingredients under the heading ‘to grind’ adding water

  • Heat ghee in a pan add in mustard seeds and curry leaves and allow it to splutter

  • Now add in cooked french beans/huralikayi, ground paste, salt and 2 cups of water and boil well while combining everything

  • Add in lemon juice and remove from the fire, mix well sprinkle coriander leaves

  • Serve with hot rice (I also felt like…… it goes well with akki rotti/rice rotti)
