I have seen in the restaurants many a times that the khichdi is always accompanied with sweet kadhi in Gujarati cuisine, which tastes both spicy as well as sweet at a time

And this combination is heavenly. And I like this sweet kadhi or Gujarat special kadhi very much, so thought of making it at home. Followed Mrs. Tarla Dalal’s recipe.

To go with this sweet kadhi or Gujarat special Kadhi I made whole green gram Khichdi but this kadhi also tastes superb with plain rice as well

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 240 ml

  • Besan/bengal gram flour/kadale hittu – 2&1/2 tbsp
  • Fresh curds- 1 cup
  • Water – 1&1/2 cup
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Hing – a fat pinch
  • Curry leaves – 1 string (I use curry leaves powder)
  • Ginger-green chili paste – 1 tsp
  • Raw cane sugar – 1&1/2 tbsp (you can use any kind of sugar)
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp

PROCEDURE :

  • Gather curds, besan and 1/2 cup of water in a blender and blend for a while just to get the no lumps mixture, mix remaining 1 cup of water and keep it aside
  • Heat ghee in a pan, add in the cumin seeds, mustard seeds and when they crackle, add in hing and stir well
  • Now add in the besan-curd mixture, curry leaves, ginger-chili paste, sugar and salt
  • Mix well while stirring continuously on high heat until it comes to boil ie…. for 2 minutes
  • Reduce the heat to low and allow it to boil for 10 minutes or so which stirring occasionally
  • Turn off the heat and sprinkle coriander leaves and serve hot
