How to make Kodbale/Kodubale by using red chili powder instead of whole red chilies. Earlier I have posted the kodbale recipe made by using whole red chilies, which we grind into powder and then add it to the rice mixture. But many people, specially youngsters find it difficult to identify the whole red chilies by their names, color or shape etc, which are more spicy/hot or less spicy/hot or gives out good color and so on. So today I’m going to write the recipe using very easily available red chili powder, it is available everywhere and which we regularly use for putting into curries, dals etc, so that it becomes easier for everyone.

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml

  • Rice flour – 1 cup (tightly packed)
  • Roasted gram/hurigadale/chutney ka chana – 2 tbsp
  • Grated dry coconut (tightly packed) – 1/4 cup
  • Cumin seeds – 1&1/2 tsp
  • Carom seeds/ajwain/om kalu – 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 2 tsp (hot)
  • Red chili powder – 3/4 tbsp (which enhances color, less spicy/hot)
  • Salt – 2 tsp
  • Hot oil – 1&1/2 tbsp
  • Water – 1/2 cup
  • Oil – to deep fry

PROCEDURE :

  • Gather dry coconut, roasted gram, cumin seeds, carom seeds, both kind of red chili powders and salt in a small mixie jar and grind everything into a fine powder and transfer to a bowl
  • Now add in rice flour and 1&1/2 tbsp oil to the same bowl and combine everything well, cover and rest it for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Now knead into a stiff, soft dough by adding little water at a time, cover and rest it again for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Again knead the dough very well for few minutes, make portions, roll into kodubale
  • Deep fry in a heated oil, batch by batch and remove on a kitchen towel/paper towel
