Normally this rice is prepared to go with dal fry, dal tadka, dal makhni, chole, rajma etc in North India whereas different kinds of vegetable kurma, some non veg curries etc in South India. This can be called in two ways ie ghee rice or Peas pulao. It is very mildly spiced by using whole spices, but today I have not put any kind spice, onions can also be added, but I have not added, its just ghee, cumin seeds, peas and rice. As I have pressure cooked this pulao, it becomes very easy and quick recipe to prepare to go with any kind of curry.

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml, servings 3

  • Basmati rice – 1 cup (I have used Kohinoor basmati rice)
  • Water (hot) – 2 cups
  • Ghee – 2 tsp (adjust)
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  • Fresh green peas – 3/4 cup
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp

PROCEDURE :

  • Rinse well the rice, drain all the water, cover and set it aside
  • Heat ghee in the cooker, add in cumin seeds, when they splutter (you need to add and roast onion at this stage) add in peas and rice, saute everything for a minute
  • Add in hot water, cover with lid and cook till one whistle (or as per your cooker’s feature)
  • Once pressure is released, gently fluff the rice with a fork and transfer to a serving bowl, sprinkle coriander leaves and serve
