Apple crumble, a British pudding, one of the classic recipes which is very easy to make besides being healthy and filling. The crumble topping is made using cold butter, flour and brown sugar, which is rubbed together using our palms to get breadcrumbs like texture.
So as to continue with my baking journey, simply like to try all/any kinds of eggless recipes like, without frosting cake, cup cakes, muffins, bread, crumble etc. that too mostly using whole wheat flour and then share the recipe here with you all if the recipe is successful after at least minimum three attempts.
a crumble can be made both sweet and savory. Most of the times its like sweet crumble using fruits with streusel topping and savory crumble is made using vegetables & cheese. Here I have used red apples but you can also make this using green ones if you like that sour taste.
Here you can check the recipes like apple almond halwa , apple chili paratha , apple Kesari , apple-amla-ginger tokku/chutney , apple raita
This particular recipe has been made using whole wheat flour, has fresh red apples along with its skin. I have used both coconut sugar and raw cane sugar and have replaced butter with equal quantity of home made ghee & cold pressed coconut oil. And this is as usual mildly sweetened, so you can adjust the sweetness as per choice. And it has all the goodness of some good amount of cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder
Apple crumble is normally paired or accompanied with custard or milk or ice cream or whipped cream or fresh cream. But it can also be served Plain. Though we liked it plain without any above mentioned accompaniments, I myself made a custard like sauce made using powdered sago, milk powder, saffron strands and little bit of sugar stirred in milk and both together tasted yum & delish.
How to make Sago Custard/Sabu dana/Sabbakki Custard
- Powdered sago – 1&1/2 tbsp
- Milk powder – 1 tbsp
- Saffron strands – 1/8 tsp
- Raw cane sugar/sugar – 2 tbsp
- Milk – 1&1/2 cup
Gather together powdered sago, milk powder, saffron strands in 1/2 cup of milk , stir well without any lumps, now add in the remaining milk, heat and bring it to boil while stirring continuously. The mixture turns thick, remove from the heat and add sugar and stir well. Sago custard is ready to be used. This is mildly sweetened as per our requirement, but you can adjust the sweetness if you wish.
