FENNEL SEEDS/SAUNF RICE/ ಸೋಂಫು ಕಾಳಿನ ಅನ್ನ No onion-garlic recipe

A no onion garlic recipe, one of the flavourful, aromatic rice preparation which can be made also on the days of festivals, functions etc.

One more addition to my rice dishes list. Till now I have posted several sweet & spicy rice dishes recipes here, of which the latest ones are red lemon rice , ginger rice , Kaayi Pulao and by the way you can also check the healthy curry leaves rice recipe here on this blog.

And also I have recently tried one more easy, aromatic , flavorful rice dish using the same set of ingredients which we put to make nimbe panaka/lemon juice – in our own namma Bengaluru style, and it was too yummy and tasty. Shall post the recipe here soon.

Now coming to this fennel seeds dish, you can replace fennel seeds with 1/2 cup of dil leaves/sabsige soppu. And it goes without saying that this rice dish is so fragrant due to the usage of fennel seeds or dil leaves in it – you know a special kind of fragrance it spreads.

So go ahead and make this rice dish now and on any festival and get praised by all at home !

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml

  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Water (preferably hot) – 2 cups
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  • Green chili – 4 to 6 (adjust)
  • Palak (chopped) – 1 cup
  • Carrot – 1 cup
  • French beans – 1 cup
  • Fresh green Peas – 1 cup
  • Potato – 1 big
  • Raw turmeric (grated) – 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt

PROCEDURE :

Heat oil in a cooker, add in mustard seeds, cumin seeds and slit green chili, when they splutter, add in Palak and saute for a minute

Now add all the other vegetables, rinsed and drained rice, fennel seeds, raw turmeric and salt and give it a good mix

Now add water, preferably hot, stir once , when it starts boiling close the lid and cook until one whistle (one whistle is enough in my cooker, you can do accordingly)

Once the pressure is down, serve hot with any kind of raita of your choice. I have paired the saunf rice with apple raita

Below is the pic of apple raita, of which you can check the recipe here
