ಮಾವು ಮೆಂತ್ಯ ದೊಣ್ ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ಚಿತ್ರಾನ್ನ

Today I was planning to make any kind/some kind of spicy rice dish and I had only one big capsicum left in my refrigerator and around about 1/2 cup of grated raw mango !!

So immediately decided to make capsicum rice, but using raw mango in place of lemon juice (making capsicum rice using lemon juice is a regular breakfast and festival dish in Karnataka, almost every household does that and we call it as nimbe hannina (lemon) chitranna, but then in that recipe we use finely chopped capsicum).

And during the process I thought of adding in fenugreek seeds powder also, so that the rice preparation will have all the tastes/rasas ie…hot, sour, sweet (obtained from both capsicum & raw mango), bitter and salt !

You can store this (prepared tempering) for up to 3 or 4 days in the refrigerator and can be mixed with small quantity of rice whenever needed or it can be prepared and mixed with the rice immediately, depending on the quantity of cooked rice being used. A suitable dish for lunch box too. So …. here is the recipe for a simple, healthy, yummy dish.

Today I served this with hayagreeva

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml

  • Cooked rice – 2 cups
  • Capsicum – 1 big
  • Grated raw mango – 1/2 cup
  • Grated fresh coconut – 1/2 cup (optional)
  • salt to taste

Others :

  • Oil – 1 to 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Bengal gram – 1&1/2 tbsp
  • Black gram lentil – 1 tbsp
  • Peanuts – 1/3 cup
  • Green chillies – 6 to 8 (adjust)
  • curry leaves – 2 strings
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek seeds powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

PROCEDURE :

  • Heat oil in a pan, add in mustard seeds, let it splutter, then add in bengal gram, black gram lentil, peanuts and allow them to get roasted
  • Now add in chopped green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves and capsicum… saute till capsicum becomes little soft
  • Now add in fenugreek powder, turmeric powder, grated raw mango and salt and combine everything well while stirring for 1 or 2 minutes
  • Add in rice, add in salt for rice, mix everything well
  • Sprinkle grated fresh coconut if using…
  • Raw mango-methi-capsicum rice is ready to serve
