Beaten rice/avalakki rotti| Poha Thalipeeth

This can be made plain or by adding vegetables such as cucumber, carrot, onion etc using either white beaten rice or red beaten rice or both in equal quantity. It can be done in two ways… One is by soaking the beaten rice and the other by grinding it into powder. It comes out well in both the ways and it takes very less oil and filling as well as healthy.
Ingredients : measuring cup used – 200 ml
- Beaten rice/Avalakki/Poha – 2 cups (rotti/thalipeeth in the image, with aam ras, is made out of red Poha/Beaten rice)
- Onion – 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
- Green chilli – 1 chopped
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves – 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tbsp (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Oil to smear on rotti
PROCEDURE :
- Wash the beaten rice, drain all the water and keep it covered for minimum half an hour, then knead it well or run it in the mixie by sprinkling little water
- Add all the other ingredients except oil and combine everything well by kneading again OR
- Powder the beaten rice in the mixer, transfer the powder into a bowl, add all the other ingredients except oil and knead the dough using water and Keep it covered for minimum half an hour
- Grease the tawa or butter paper or Plate ( rotti tatte ) , Pinch a portion of the dough and spread it evenly with wet fingers ( keep a bowl of water by the side and dip your finger whenever necessary )
- Cook on both the sides by smearing little oil
- Serve with any chutney or Palya or any kind of mixed vegetable curry or with aam ras/seekarane
