Steamed green gram lentil/Hesarubele uppittu

Very much comforting & healthy breakfast idea during summers. This dish is one of our favourite. This can be made without onions as well, but we like it with onion.
Its making procedure is little lengthy….. but after all who doesn’t want that satisfaction of eating & serving a healthy breakfast ever. It tastes better if we make it more spicy.
Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml
- Split green gram – 1 cup
- Green chilli – 4 to 6
- Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp or little less
- Salt – as required
Other ingredients :
- Onion – 1 big ( chopped)
- Oil – 1/2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
- Bengal gram – 1/2 tbsp
- Split black gram – 1 tsp
- Broken red chilies – 2
- Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
- curry leaves – few
- coriander leaves – 1 or 2 tbsp
- Grated fresh coconut – 1/4 cup
- Lemon juice – 1/2 to 1 tbsp
PROCEDURE :
- Soak the split green gram for 2 to 3 hours, then grind it coarsely by adding salt, hing & chilies along with little water
- Pour the batter in the Idly moulds and steam it for 10 to 12 minutes
- Once idly is done , let it cool completely, then crumble it into powder and keep aside
- Heat oil in a pan , add mustard seeds, bengal gram, black gram, curry leaves, red chillies and onion…. and fry till onion becomes translucent
- Add turmeric powder , moong idly crumbled mixture and stir evenly add lemon juice, mix well
- Remove from the fire, sprinkle coriander leaves & coconut
