SPROUTED FENUGREEK SEEDS TAMBULI

It is very easy to make fenugreek seeds sprout at home. I’m very fond of making whole green gram sprouts and fenugreek seeds sprout and use them in many ways. Every now and then I make sprouts using either of them and put it in regular huli (sambar), gojju(tangy curry), tambuli, rotti etc. I have posted menthyada sihi huggi/sprouted fenugreek seeds sweet pongal recipe here on my blog and hesarukalu (whole green gram) pongal as well. And today I’m going to post our malenadu (my native) special tambuli recipe.

When you soak 1 tsp of fenugreek seeds, it becomes 2 tbsp in quantity once it sprouts ! I normally soak a tsp of fenugreek seeds in enough water in the morning around 10 am and drain all the water around 10 pm at night, cover and keep it in a warm place, by next morning you can see it sprouting

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml

  • Curd – 1/2 cup (adjust)
  • Sprouted fenugreek seeds – 2 tbsp
  • Grated fresh coconut – 1/4 cup
  • Whole red chili (byadigi) – 2 nos.,
  • Carom seeds/ajwain – 1/2 tsp
  • Black pepper corns – 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp

Others :

  • Ghee – 1&1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 tsp
  • Split black gram/urad dal – 1 tsp

PROCEDURE :

  • Dry roast together the whole red chilies, carom seeds, black pepper corns, cumin seeds and curry leaves until light brown, then transfer to a plate
  • Now dry roast the coconut to remove the moisture
  • Once everything is cooled, gather everything in a mixie jar along with salt and grind into a coarse paste without using any water
  • Transfer the ground paste to a vessel and also add in curds
  • Heat ghee in a pan add in mustard seeds, curry leaves, split black gram and sprouted fenugreek seeds, saute for a minute and pour it on the paste curd mixture
  • Combine everything well and serve with steaming hot rice, roti, rotti etc
