Easy and tasty Kobbari mithai/coconut burfi is the authentic burfi recipe which belongs to the state of Karnataka. This is made using a very few ingredients such as fresh coconut and sugar. Further you can add any kind of flavor to enhance the taste.

Last week, one of the food groups on fb, had kept their theme as ‘coffee’ and I thought of making this wonderful burfi for that theme by adding instant coffee powder to it, but couldn’t do so for some reason. So today I tried making this delicious coffee coconut burfi and it tasted amazingly yummy. So have come here again to share that wonderful recipe with you all.

You may want to check the two other kinds of Kobbari mithai/coconut burfi recipe here on my blog, in which I have put saffron strands in one kind and Pistachios in the other. Since long time thinking of making this burfi by putting walnuts too, shall do so asap.

In this recipe I have used Tata Coffee Grand (flavor locked decoction crystals) instant powder dissolved in 1 tbsp of hot water (neither warm nor boiled) to get that coffee flavor in the burfi and believe me it is not at all bitter, rather full of awesome coffee flavor. And Just organik’s, unrefined raw sugar (desi Khand) as the sweetener.

The quantity of instant coffee powder I have put is appropriate. But you can adjust the quantity depending on the bitterness of the instant coffee powder you are using, else the burfi may taste bitter.

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml, makes 10 to 12 pieces of shown size
  • Grated fresh coconut – 2 cups (normally packed)
  • Sugar – 1 cup (normally packed) kindly refer above
  • Instant coffee powder – 2 tsp (adjust the quantity depending on the bitterness of the instant coffee powder you use)
  • Water – 1 tbsp
PROCEDURE :
  • Put together coconut and sugar in a kadai/pan, mix and keep stirring on medium heat
  • Meanwhile stir 2 tsp of coffee powder in 1 tbsp of hot water and set aside
  • Add the coffee solution when the liquid content in the mixture is almost evaporated
  • Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and no more liquid oozes out
  • Transfer to a greased or lined tray, set it properly by tapping with spatula and cut into desired shape and size
  • Cool completely and serve
