Today let us learn about how to make rotti/flat bread using sorghum semolina/jolada rave. Sorghum which is called as Jowar in Hindi, Cholam in Telugu, Jola in Kannada, Cholum in Malayalam…. is a powerhouse of nutrients.
Sorghum/Jowar also belongs to Millets category. Consuming millets has many health benefits and are economical compared to Rice and Wheat. It contains half the daily required intake of Protein, has high level of vitamins and minerals, Regulates Calcium, boosts immune system, supports metabolism.
It is rich in fiber so digests more slowly with a lower glycemic index, which is very much required for diabetic people, which helps control diabetes. It is an anti-oxidant which is gluten free as well.
Totally this is a good wholesome food which we should definitely use in our diet very often. This semolina can be used to make almost everything like chapati, rotti, khichdi, baked products etc. Today I’m going to share how make Jowar/Sorghum sooji/rava rotti in south Indian method.
Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml
- Sorghum/Jowar sooji – 1 cup
- Whole wheat flour – 1/2 cup
- Chopped onion – 1/2 cup
- Green chilli – 1 tbsp or to taste
- Coriander leaves – 1/2 cup
- Curry leaves – 2 tbsp
- Salt – to taste
- Oil to spread & roast the rotti
- water as required to make the dough
PROCEDURE :
- First mix well Jowar sooji and whole wheat flour
- Now add all the other ingredients like onion, chilli, coriander leaves, curry leaves and salt
- Combine everything well and prepare the dough using sufficient amount of water, then rest it for 15 to 20 minutes
- Pinch a portion of the dough and spread it on a greased butter paper/plate/tawa
- Cook on both the sides smearing little oil
- Serve hot with any kind of accompaniment of your choice
