Banana rasayana is a simple fruit salad made using banana, fresh coconut and Jaggery. But during mango season it is also being added with banana and in the same procedure we can make ripen Jackfruit rasayana also or we can combine all the three fruits and make rasayana.
This is an old dish from Karnataka, Mysore and South Canara region. Now a days I don’t add either jaggery or honey to banana rasayana instead I replace both with a small amount of date syrup or I don’t add anything if the fruits are sweeter.
Coming back to this recipe, I just coarsely grind fresh coconut and jaggery and directly add it to the rasayana, but people in South canara do it in a little different way by adding finely ground and strained coconut – jaggery milk
The good part in this recipe is we put roasted and ground black sesame seed powder into it. Black sesame seed is the healthiest food and by using it regularly we can get lot of health benefits. By the way here you can check the recipe of black sesame seeds chutney powder
Mango banana rasayana can be consumed as such , but also goes very well with chapati, dosay/dosa, rice rotti , semiya, poha etc. This can be consumed during fasting as well
