MASALA BREAD TOAST …..an absolute Namma Bengaluru special tea/coffee time snack/ಅಯ್ಯಂಗಾರ್ ಬೇಕರಿ ಸ್ಟೈಲ್ ಬ್ರೆಡ್ ಟೋಸ್ಟ್

Though making this snack at home since so many years, never thought of posting the recipe here on my blog. But I guess today is that day! Going to post the recipe of one of our (almost everyone’s) most favorite, namma Bengaluru bakery goody, yummy snack – masala bread toast.
Trust me you can get this mouth watering snack in each & every bakery, any day, any time, round the clock in namma Bengaluru. We relish this snack too very often but still feel like can’t get enough of it.
In case you are looking for some other kinds of snacks – baked bread rolls , instant brown bread dahi wada , authentic muchhore , Kuttavalakki , Kempavalakki chuda/roasted red rice flakes , Karida khara-sihi avalakki , yelakki balekayi bajji , gokulashtami/janmashtami snacks , congress kadlebeeja , sorghum flakes/jolada avalakki mixture , corn flakes mixture , heerekayi/ridge gourd nuchhinunde/steamed dumplings
Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml
- Bread loaves – 1 pound/packet
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Green chili – 1 tbsp (adjust)
- Onion – 2 cups
- Tomato – 1 cup
- Grated carrot – 1 cup
- Curry leaves – 1 tbsp
Others :
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
- Coriander seeds powder – 1 tsp
- Red chili powder (kashmiri/less hot) – 1&1/2 to 2 tsp (adjust)
- Black pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
- Roasted gram powder or roasted peanut powder – 1 to 2 tbsp (optional)
- Sugar – 1 tbsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
- Water (if needed) – 1 or 2 tbsp
PROCEDURE :
- Heat oil in a pan, put mustard seeds, green chili and curry leaves, when they crackle, add in onion and saute until turns transparent, then put carrot and tomato, saute until everything turns soft. Then add in salt and stir well
- Now put turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander seeds powder, red chili powder, black pepper powder and roasted gram or peanut powder (if using) and stir while combining everything well
- Now add in sugar and coriander leaves, give the mixture a final stir and remove from the heat and let it come to room temperature
- Meanwhile lightly toast the bread on the heated tawa on both the sides or in toaster
- Now spread a good amount of masala mixture on each loaf of the bread and enjoy with hot coffee or tea
