Yet another yummy dish from Rajasthan, which is served as an accompaniment with roti/Phulka and made using ripen guava. This dish uses only guava as a main ingredient along with some simple spices and herbs.
I have paired this subji along with Soaked split green gram Paratha , which is again a traditional and popular dish from Rajasthan. There in Rajasthan they make varieties of guava subji but today what I have made is the simple one with very very few ingredients.
However you can also check – Guava/amrood and methi subji , Guava/amrood chutney on this blog and make them now as this the season of guava/amrood.
To make this particular subji, choose fully ripen, soft guavas, which turns slightly mushy once you cook it in water and gets curry structure as we are not going to put any ground paste or flour paste or curd into it.
Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml
- Ripen guava, diced – 2 cups
- Water – 1/2 cup
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
- Green chili – 3 nos.,
- Turmeric powder – 1/3 tsp
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves – 1 tbsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
PROCEDURE :
- Peel and wash well the guavas and dice into cubes and set aside
- Heat oil in a pan/Karahi, put fennel seeds, green chili, turmeric powder, stir once and also add coriander leaves and curry leaves, stir again
- Put the diced guava and stir well for a minute or so on high heat. Now add in the water, reduce the heat, cover and let it cook until guavas turn soft
- Now put salt and mix everything well and let it boil for a minute or so, remove from the heat and serve along with any kind of flat bread. Today I have paired this curry/subji along with soaked split moong dal Paratha
