Moringa leaves or moringa or drumstick leaves or drumsticks itself, has been a part of Indian diets for long time, specially this is widely used in south Indian cuisine for it naturally enhances the immunity and it is rich in vitamins A and C, iron, calcium and antioxidants that help support immunity

Moringa leaves or drumstick leaves may help improve energy levels, stamina and overall well being. And as far as my this post is considered, today I’m here with you all to share an absolutely yummy, healthy powder, which is used as an accompaniment along with almost anything and everything in Southern parts of India

This moringa leaves chutney powder or any kind of chutney powder for that matter is one condiment, which we south Indians never miss to keep in our pantry and we do call this as chutney Pudi.

Chutney pudi or chutney powder is specifically a dry powder including roasted spice, lentil, dry coconut, herbal leaves etc that is used as an accompaniment in a small quantity everyday along with meal or breakfast dishes

Also we consume chutney powder (all kinds) mixed with steamed hot rice and ghee or we mix this powder with rice flakes or avalakki or puffed rice etc. Chalo….now let’s look at the recipe of this protein rich Powder which is made today in a different way by adding moringa leaves or drumstick leaves.

Ingredients : measuring cup used 250 ml

  • Drumstick leaves – 2 cups (it should be of 2 cups after roasting)
  • Whole red chilli – 15 to 20 (I have put only byadigi chilies)
  • Peanuts – 1/2 cup
  • Split bengal gram or Kadale bele – 1/4 cup
  • Split black gram or Uddina bele – 1/4 cup
  • Grated dry coconut – 1 cup
  • Black pepper corns – 1 tsp
  • Sesame seeds – 1 tbsp (Or you can put 1/2 tbsp each of black and white sesame seeds)
  • Jaggery – 1 tbsp
  • Tamarind – 1 tbsp
  • Rock salt – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida or hing – 1/2 tsp

PROCEDURE :

  • Dry roast drumstick leaves, Kadale bele, Uddina bele, Peanuts and dry coconut one by one until aromatic, transfer to a plate and allow it to cool completely
  • Now in the same pan, dry roast sesame seeds, red chilies, black pepper corns and tamarind and transfer to the same plate
  • Now put all the roasted stuffs to the mixie jar and also put salt, jaggery powder, turmeric powder and hing, grind everything together into semi coarse powder
  • That’s it ! our super healthy moringa leaves or drumstick leaves chutney powder is ready
  • Once the ground mixture is cooled completely, store it in a clean, dry airtight jar, use it as and when needed
  • Actually, everyday you can consume a spoon full of moringa chutney powder along with lunch as an accompaniment or you can eat this chutney powder mixed with a small amount of rice by adding little ghee at the beginning of the meal (refer the below pic)
