SWEET POTATO LENTIL CURRY| SHAKARKANDI DAL| SIHI GENASINA KOOTU

Here is one more sweet potato dish. Its a conventional recipe, made during winter. Only black pepper is used to make it hot. All the ingredients used in this recipe is good for health including sweet potato. This Kootu is made in two ways… one by using Lentil (Toor dal) and another without using Lentil. Both tastes awesome.
Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml
- Cooked Toor/arahar dal – 1 cup
- Sweet potato – 4 big
- Salt to taste
To dry roast :
- Black lentil / urad dal – 2&1/2 tbsp
- Black pepper corns – heaped 1/2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tbsp
- Grated dry coconut – 1/2 cup
For tempering :
- Ghee – 1/2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Grated dry coconut – 2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida – 2-3 pinches
PROCEDURE :
- Wash, peel, cut and cook sweet potato with enough water
- Roast all the ingredients under the heading ” to dry roast ” till light brown and grind to a fine powder
- Add ground powder, cooked Toor dal & salt to the cooked sweet potato…mix everything well
- Add water to get required consistency…..
- Bring it to boil by stirring so that it won’t stick to the bottom
- Prepare tempering using the ingredients under the heading ‘ for tempering ‘ and pour it over the Kootu
- Serve hot with rice or rice rotti
