Panchamruta – means mixture of five nectars or ingredients that are combined together with a right proportion to make the holy drink or prasada in a liquid form.

For every Hindu Pooja vidhi vidhana, on festivals or special occasions Panchamruta is required for abhisheka.

The five ingredients are Cow milk, curd, honey, ghee and jaggery – which are used to bathe (wash) the Idols/Saligrama of God, in other words it is called as “abhisheka” and is collected in a bowl and offered to God with a Tulasi leaf added to it and later distributed as abhisheka Prasada, which is very healthy and nourishing according to purana and ayurveda as well.

Panchamruta has many medicinal values like it is good for brain function, skin, hair etc. It is also said that this is given in small quantity for all the nine months during pregnancy for the good health of mother and fetus.

We have grown up drinking this amrutha a lot, as my Appa very often used to do abhisheka very religiously. Now even our children are very fond of this.

Banana – a sacred ayurvedic fruit is also added to the Panchamruta along with the five main ingredients. Only banana should be added, but now a days it has become fancy to use any & every fruit  even in temples while making Panchamruta. But we like the original and basic one, so I don’t add any other fruit than banana.

Many people use sugar instead of jaggery, which is not accepted by all, as sugar is not a natural element like jaggery because sugar is refined by using chemicals which makes it inappropriate to use for Pooja/ Abhisheka.

You can have Panchamruta even on regular days, that too specially during summer as all the summer friendly ingredients are used to make Panchamruta. You need to just mix the ingredients well and have it – very simple without the need of cooking any thing and we can call it as a all in one drink ie… mixture of lassi, milkshake and juice with natural sweeteners.

Here ⇓ is how to make Panchamrutha – a sweet concoction prepared using  only five healthy ingredients. The below mentioned quantity of ingredients makes that perfect panchamrutha, but you can always adjust the quantities of ingredients  as per taste/requirement.
