This fennel seeds or saunf sharbat and its premix is no doubt a wonderful drink which helps in keeping your body cool during summers with soaring temperature – so do not forget to keep stock of this excellent premix, specially during summer season, have a glass of this fennel sharbat and you will really feel that coolness from within and get energised as well

Please remember we should use the small sized fennel seeds to make this sharbat and apart from having cooling properties fennel seeds posses numerous other health benefits, such as it aids in good digestion, reduces bloating, boosts immunity, these tiny seeds are a good source of fiber, vitamins and minerals.

I have put powdered (at home) red rock sugar, which is said to have the cooling properties and also has numerous health benefits when consumed and sometimes I also put Palm rock sugar, which again offers several potential health benefits

I have also put a small quantity of sesame seeds in this premix, which elevates the fiber content, calcium content, nutrition level, vitamins etc in it

Below I have mentioned the ingredients in small quantity, so that you can prepare this premix in a very small quantity at first and later if you like this, you can definitely make in large quantity, specifically if you are making this for the first time

And always do remember for consuming anything, anytime, moderation is the key ! I mean… it’s always best to consume things in a balanced and reasonable way, avoiding extremes or excesses in this as well as all areas of life for that matter

Sometimes I do rinse and wash the fennel seeds first in enough water, drain all the water, then dry the seeds on a clean cloth until fully dried under the fan then proceed with preparing the premix and some other times I clean/wipe the fennel seeds using a dry cloth and proceed with the next steps, so this can be made in any of these two methods

Ingredients : measuring cup used 250 ml

  • Saunf/Fennel seeds (small) – 1/2 cup
  • Powdered red rock sugar/Palm rock sugar – 1/2 cup (or any sweetener of your choice)
  • Green cardamom – 12 nos.,
  • Black pepper corns – 1/2 tsp
  • Poppy seeds/Khus khus – 2 tbsp
  • Sesame seeds – 1 tbsp (I put 1/2 tbsp each of both white and black sesame seeds )

PROCEDURE :

  • To begin with let me show you the sweetener I normally use in this premix or in general for that matter, ie Red rock sugar and Palm rock sugar
  • Wipe well the fennel seeds using a clean cloth and proceed with the further steps
  • OR
  • Rinse and wash well the fennel seeds in enough water, drain all the water, spread on a clean cloth and allow it to dry completely
  • Then gather everything together in a mixie jar and grind into a fine powder
  • Pass it through a fine mesh sieve, grind again, sieve again until you get the maximum nice powder and only little rough powder is left in the sieve
  • (I do soak this rough powder in water or milk for sometime, which remains at the end and grind it into fine paste, and add some more milk or water and drink)
  • And store the prepared powder in an air tight container
  • Use as and when needed

To make a glass of saunf sharbat :

  • Water (cold or at room temperature) – 250 ml
  • Saunf sharbat premix – 1&1/2 tbsp (adjust)
  • Stir the powder very well in water and your saunf sharbat is ready to drink
  • Or
  • If you want you can also put mint leaves, a couple of drops of lemon juice and a pinch of salt to it
  • Or
  • You can also put a couple of spoons of well soaked god katira and a tsp of chia seeds also along with mint leaves, lemon juice
  • Or
  • You can stir this powder into hot milk
