Specially made on the day of Ratha Saptami, Avalakki Payasa or beaten rice or poha Kheer is a healthy and filling sweet dish.
Like other dishes this is also made in many ways, even I do it in many ways, but on this festival day I make this Payasa/Kheer in this particular method.
So below is my method of Avalakki Payasa…. for this particular day. Very easy, quick and healthy recipe.
Ingredients : measuring cup used – 200 ml
- Beaten rice – 1 cup
- Milk – 1 cup (or more to get desired consistecy)
- Jaggery – 1/2 cup
- Grated fresh coconut – 1/2 cup
- Ghee – 1/2 tbsp (you can add more also)
- Almond, Cashew nut, raisins – 1 tbsp each
- water as required to dissolve jaggery
- Cardamom powder – a fat pinch
PROCEDURE :
- Wash the beaten rice well, drain all the water and keep it aside covered
- Heat the water in a container, add jaggery and stir well till it gets dissolved fully
- Heat ghee in a pan, add almond, cashews and raisins and fry them
- Add milk, keep the fire on sim, add washed beaten rice and stir till beaten rice is soft (it takes hardly two minutes)
- Now add coconut and strain the dissolved jaggery directly into the pan
- Add Cardamom powder and stir well till everything gets combined
- Beaten rice Payasa / Kheer is ready to serve
