Posted in : Platter| on by : Divya Suresh
Sri rama navami is a Hindu festival, observed on the ninth day of chaitra masa/month to mark the birth of Lord Sri Rama, which is said to be the seventh avatara of Lord Sri Vishnu. Rama navami falls exactly nine days after Ugadi. Here in north India those nine days are also celebrated as navratras/Chita navaratri. But In south India, we celebrate the first day of those nine days as Ugadi (beginning of the new year) and the ninth day as the birthday of Lord Sri Rama ie …Sri rama navami.
Our own Karnataka is also one among the states which celebrates the festival with great zeal. In namma Bengaluru, they put Pandals or even on footpaths people from some organisations distributes free Panaka, fruit juice, Usli, avalakki etc to the Public.
One more great attraction in namma Bengaluru during Sri rama navami is, Sri Ramaseva Mandali , Chamarajpet, organises India’s prestigious, month long classical music festival and all the famous classical music personalities perform music there everyday during that whole month to also celebrate the Indian classical musicians, irrespective of their religion, from both the genres ie .. Carnatic & Hindustani.
As the Sri rama navami comes in summer season, all summer friendly drinks/juices, fruit salads and cooling stuffs are prepared both as offering to the God and to consume & distribute among each other. Below I have listed some of the beverages, salads using fruits and lentil salads.
