CABBAGE PULAO/ಎಲೆಕೋಸು ಪಲಾವ್

Wow !!!! this is my 78th rice preparation post ….. just can’t believe till now I have posted 77 types of various dishes using rice as the main ingredient.

Today’s recipe is one more tasty Pulao made using cabbage as main ingredient. Actually I had prepared a masala powder to use in a (dry) fruits and nuts cake, so I had left with some more masala powder and somehow I felt like making pulao using the same powder and my intuition was absolutely right as I got one more kind of yummy, tasty & healthy Pulao.

Vegetables I have put together is absolutely my guess, so you can try with other combinations as well. Tastes superb and quick and easy to prepare as well. Tasty and healthy one pot meal. If you make it, please let me know and if you try this with some other combination of vegetables, then I can also try that too – I Insist you all to make this definitely…. so thanks in advance.

Ingredients : measuring cup used – 250 ml

  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Cabbage – 4 cups (cut into long)
  • Onion – 1 heaped cup
  • Tomato – 1 cup
  • Fresh green peas – 1&1/2 cup
  • Ginger – 1 tbsp
  • Grated raw turmeric – 1 tbsp
  • Red chili powder – 1&1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds powder – 1 tsp
  • Masala powder – 1 tsp (check below)
  • Lemon juice – 1 to 2 tsp (optional)

MASALA POWDER :

  1. Cinnamon stick – 1 inch long &1/2 an inch wide

2. Cloves – 8 nos.,

3. Nutmeg – 1/4 inch piece

4. Star anise – 1 big

5. Green cardamom – 15 nos.,

6. Mace – 1 tsp

PROCEDURE :

  • To begin with gather and powder together finely, the ingredients listed under the heading ‘ Masala Powder ‘, and set aside
  • Heat oil in a cooker, put ginger and onion and saute until slightly soft, then add tomato saute for a minute, add raw turmeric and peas, stir again
  • Now add in red chili powder, cumin powder, masala powder and salt, stir everything on a high heat for a minute
  • Reduce the heat, add rinsed rice and boiled water, when again it starts boiling, close the lid and give it one whistle. One whistle is enough in my cooker, but you can do accordingly
  • Once the pressure is released, serve the Pulao. Actually tastes good as such without any accompaniment but you can pair this with any kind of raita.
